Terre des hommes (Tdh) is at the moment the only NGO active in the field of health in Rustaq district. Emphasis is on basic primary health care (limited MCH and curative care – through Terre des hommes’ Mother-Child-Health Clinic in Rustaq town) and preventive health care (health education and EPI services for the whole district), aimed at significantly improving the health status and health situation of the population of Rustaq and 15 villages:

Expanded Program for Immunization (EPI) services are expanding to 173 villages of the district with annually four rounds of EPI to all villages including WHO’s goal of eradication of polio. The EPI is fully integrated into health service provision, with appropriate orientation and training for relevant health workers.

Health education activities to people in Rustaq and 15 villages are offered and implemented. Health education trainers train continuously 30 community health workers in all 15 villages and render refresher courses at least twice a year.

The 15 earthquake affected villages are covered by mobile teams providing regularly curative and preventive services. Mobile teams of doctors, nurses and vaccinators are frequently visiting five health spots covering all the 15 villages destroyed by the earthquakes.
