Terre
des hommes
(Tdh) will provide better education opportunities
beyond primary education, especially for girls but also for boys,
and thus offering children of the whole district to move through
the primary system to secondary education – by constructing a high
school for girls, rehabilitating the existing high school for boys
in Rustaq which has been not maintained for the past 23 years of
conflict. In addition sanitation facilities have to be constructed
in order to improve hygiene and hygiene education. In addition
several village primary schools will be rehabilitated in order to
improve the access to education for smaller children, especially
girls.
Village committees are already existing with the promotional
support of Terre des hommes (Tdh). Village committees have
active roles to play not only in the enjoyment of their meetings,
but also in helping to determine how education of children and
access to education can be better promoted. It thus encourages
appropriate participation of parents in making decisions on
matters that concern them. The challenge is then to determine
what constitutes the "best-interests" in a particular
socio-cultural context.
Terre des hommes
(Tdh) has promoted the formation of community based organizations
CBOs (only male members) in all 15 project villages, composed of
mullahs, village commanders and ordinary members plus Tdh’
community health workers to take part in better health education
and affairs related to village schools. It is envisaged to
promote female communities through Terre des hommes’ female
staff to be responsible for girls’ education. The CBOs require
training and awareness building including the promotion of
networking.
