The ‘Winterisation for ASCHIANA Street Children Project’ has been implemented to help vulnerable children and their families in the drop-in centres of the ASCHIANA street children project. The supplementary food included rice, oil, sugar, chickpeas, bread, vegetables, fruits and other items like salt etc. Also tooth paste, soap, tooth brush, shampoo and towels have been distributed. The project lasted three months, from 1^st February 2003 until 30^th of April 2003, targeting 1734 street children and their families.

It is worth mentioning that serving of food to the street-working children help them to be saved from malnourishment, underweight and sickness.  Providing of nutritious meals enables the children to perform hard works on the streets after they leave ASCHIANA for the streets. Feeding of the children not only supports the child but it also supports the relevant families.  Their children get food in ASCHIANA and the family food is left for other family members who are not attending the centres.  From feeding programs the children benefit directly and the families benefit indirectly.

In addition the project provided kerosene to 1734 households and equipped four street children drop-in centres with stoves for heating, fuel, and fuel tanks.

Funds have been allocated to drill boreholes in order to provide save drinking water for the centres.
